Your DPCs of Texas cover a lot of territory in the state. Regions have differing issues when it comes to 811 work and needs. East Texas has timber forests, requiring an approach with the logging industry. Out west, it’s oil and gas. (Ok, it’s Texas, it’s oil and gas EVERYWHERE)
Regardless of these differences, there’s one thing we all come together for, and that’s this Friday, August 11. It’s 811 Day!
The date of 8/11 is promoted by the Common Ground Alliance, a member-driven association of 1,700 individuals, organizations and sponsors in every facet of the underground utility industry. Established in 2000, CGA is committed to saving lives and preventing damage to North American underground infrastructure by promoting effective damage prevention practices.
National 811 Day is a reminder for everyone in the United States to call 811 before digging, from contractors to professional excavators to homeowners. We all have a stake in protecting our underground infrastructure. And remember, this is a free service!
Texas811, the nation’s largest 811 call center, is celebrating 811 day this year by working with the famous Dallas Omni Hotel to have our logo and 811 message displayed again on the 26 story side of this building on August 11 where it is literally seen for miles from dusk to dawn to participating in big block parties in Houston.
As a non-profit entity, we’re proud to say that over 1600 underground stakeholders put their trust in Texas811 and the Damage Prevention Councils of Texas – from Atmos Energy to Texas A&M University to the city of Austin.
And by putting their trust in us, they’re putting your trust in them to keep you safe and keep your utilities and services up and running.
811 day may be the most important date of the year for one call notification – but EVERY HOUR OF EVERY DAY is the most important time of the year for us.
Until next week, safe digging!
