Mark your calendar. Friday, October 27 is the LAST of our 2017 Mock Line Strike/PipelineResponse events!
We’ll be in Vinton, just outside of El Paso, Texas for this event. The location is the West Valley Fire Department, 510 E. Vinton Road, Vinton, TX 79821 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
Among those participating/sponsoring are Texas Gas Service, ONEOK Partners, El Paso Water, West Valley Fire Department, Texas811, New Mexico 811, Enertech and others. Like all of our Mock Line Strike events this year, this free event brings first responders, utility, oil & gas, municipal, and county personnel together to take part in dynamic hands-on scenario safety training open to the public.
Exhibits and equipment demos are open throughout the event.
A Pipeline Response class by TEEX (Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service) will be held at 9:30 am. This class covers North West Texas information about pipelines, product properties, response information and local pipeline operators’ contact information for first responders.
A class on one-call requirements with Texas811, New Mexico 811, the Railroad Commission of Texas, and the New Mexico Pipeline Safety Bureau begins at 10:30.
The pipeline rupture drill program begins at 11:00 am.
The public is invited to attend this live scenario, where they will have the rare opportunity of experiencing a mock gas pipeline rupture showing what happens when a gas delivery line is struck by mechanized digging equipment, and what steps need to be taken in the immediate aftermath. This event and learning experience is open and free to the public.
We’ve had a great time doing these events this year. We started back in February in Amarillo, and made stops in Abilene, Austin, Beaumont, Bryan/College Station, Fort Worth, Gonzales, Kerrville, Longview, Lubbock, McAllen, Midland, Pearsall, San Angelo, Victoria, and Wichita Falls.
The calendar will be larger in 2018.
Like the Johnny Cash song says:
“I’ve been everywhere, man
I’ve been everywhere, man
Crossed the deserts bare, man
I’ve breathed the mountain air, man
Travel, I’ve had my share, man
I’ve been everywhere”
And don’t forget – we still have plenty of Damage Prevention Council meetings to attend!

Until next week, safe digging.
