The new season of Mock Line Strike/PipelineResponse is underway, and the results and turnouts have been spectacular.
If you aren’t familiar with a Mock Line Strike presentation, at its heart is a live demonstration of what happens when a buried gas line is hit through careless digging.
Here’s a still photograph of the moment when a backhoe bucket ruptures a line. For our purposes, the lines are pressurized with air from a compressor that simulates the blowing of natural gas from the broken pipe.
For a closer look, here’s a story from a Corpus Christi tv station.
In the PipelineResponse class, attendees get training and information on how to deal with such an incident, as well as refreshers on the 811 system and local gas suppliers; many times, a lunch is also served.
The best thing about these events? They are FREE, just like your call to 811!
To date, we’ve held these live scenarios in Katy, Corpus Christi, Mercedes, Del Rio and Laredo.
Hempstead is coming up on May 16, and Bryan on May 18.

Until next week, safe digging!
