We talked earlier about the Safety Day/Mock Line Strike/PipelineResponse that was coming up in Victoria, Texas on April 27th.
Wow! What a show! There were well over 150 in attendance for this exhibition that let people experience first hand what happens when a buried natural gas line is hit by an excavator who didn’t call 811 prior to the dig. We do these shows in connection with Enertech. You can get more information on them here: http://diggingtexas811.com/about and here: http://diggingtexas811.com/home
If you were one of the early arrivals, you may have seen the CGA/Cox Utilities hot air balloon go up in the parking lot at the location. Here it is:
Unfortunately, unfavorable wind conditions prevailed, and the balloon was deflated and packed up before the show started. However, the show itself was a show stopper, complete with a life flight helicopter landing!
Victoria’s ABC affiliate was in attendance, and here’s the story they did on the event.
City of Victoria video/media was also there with a two camera shoot, and I’ll post a link to their story in a future blog.
So come on out! You’ll be with like-minded people, and likely run into people you know, as well. Lunch is provided, and it’s a great opportunity to run through a refresher on your 811 safety training.
Here’s the info on the next big show, coming up this Friday, May 5th, in Midland. It’s important to note that everything will be done TWICE during this show – for instance, the mock line strike will occur at both 11:00 and 2:30, and there will also be an “arc and spark” demonstration by PowerLine Services at 10:00 and 1:30.
But wait, as we used to say in TV, there’s more!
Additional Safety Day events for May are scheduled as follows:
Fort Worth 5/13
Until next week, safe digging!
