Yep, it’s still National Safe Digging Month, and will be for a couple more weeks. What have you been doing to encourage others to dig safely?
You don’t have to do anything spectacular, like sky writing. Just using 811 in your every day conversation helps. (Don’t stop on your way to work and put in an order for 811 donuts, though. Bad idea.)
Your Damage Prevention Managers have tried and true ways of getting 811 into a conversation.
“See those little colored flags sticking up out of the ground? Do you know what they mean?”
“Lot of digging activity there. I hope they called 811 first.”
“Did you know that most underground line strikes happen because there wasn’t a call to 811 first?”
There are plenty of ways to get the conversation around to 811 and the need to call before you dig.
Of course, if you need more, you can always attend one of your Damage Prevention Council of Texas meetings, happening all over the state every single month. For the complete up to date listing of such events, click here: http://dpcoftexas.com
And if you want to see the BIG SHOW, come to Victoria, Texas on April 27th for a big Safety Day/Mock Line Strike! Those details are here: http://diggingtexas811.com/pipeline/meeting/32
Additionally, the 20th Annual Texas811 Golf Tournament is fast approaching – Friday, April 21st! You’ve still got time to register a team and hit the links with a fun loving crowd including movie and TV star Burton “Blazing Saddles” Gilliam!
Here’s the link: http://texas811.org/golf
We hope to see you there!
Until next time, safe digging!
